Jurnaly · standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation
Jurnaly is a collaborative storytelling app. People write fiction together, one chapter at a time, and can comment on and rate each other's work. Because that means users publish text to other users, we publish the standards we hold that content to.
Our position
Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is absolutely prohibited on Jurnaly. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the sexualisation of minors in any form including written fiction and illustration, grooming, sextortion, trafficking, and any other exploitation of a child. There is no context in which this content is permitted, and fiction is not an exception.
Who can use Jurnaly
Jurnaly is not intended for children. Users must be at least 13 years old, and older where local law sets a higher age for consenting to the processing of personal data.
How we prevent and address it
- Our Terms of Use prohibit this content, and breaching them ends the account.
- Every story, chapter, comment and user profile can be reported from inside the app, by any signed-in user, in a few taps.
- Reports are recorded and tracked to a resolution rather than being sent to an unattended mailbox.
- Users can block another user, which removes that person's content from their view.
- Content found to breach these standards is removed, and the accounts responsible are terminated.
- Chapters are visible to everyone reading the story. Jurnaly has no private messaging, so it offers no unobserved channel between adults and minors.
Reporting to authorities
Where we identify apparent child sexual abuse material, we report it to the relevant regional and national authorities as required by applicable law, and we preserve the associated records for those authorities. We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
Reporting a concern to us
Anyone can raise a child safety concern, whether or not they use Jurnaly, and whether or not they are signed in.
Put “Child safety” in the subject line. Reports of this kind are prioritised ahead of all other support mail. Inside the app, use the report control on any story, chapter, comment or profile.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In the United States, suspected child sexual exploitation can also be reported to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org. In the United Kingdom, reports can be made to the Internet Watch Foundation at report.iwf.org.uk.
